Seven members of NYLS’s Class of 2019 have joined the New York City Law Department as Assistant Corporation Counsels this fall.
NYLS was again one of the top two law schools in New York to populate the ranks of the Law Department’s entry class, with alumni accounting for 11 percent of the new hires.
The Department’s 1,000 lawyers represent the city in a wide range of legal matters, from tort claims to environmental issues, real estate issues, and drafting new legislation. They also provide legal counsel to city officials on issues such as immigration, education, and environmental policy.
Alumni joining the new class include:

- William Gosling ’19 (Special Federal Litigation Division)
- Moshe Katz ’19 (Tort Division)
- Christin Nierman ’19 (Labor and Employment Law Division)
- Jessica Plutchok ’19 (Family Court Division)
- Megan Schnader ’19 (Tort Division)
- Emma Semerad ’19 (Workers’ Compensation Division)
Dean Anthony W. Crowell began his public service career at the Law Department before serving as Counselor to Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. Today, Dean Crowell teaches NYLS’s popular State & Local Government Law course.
In addition, preLaw magazine ranks NYLS as a top school for government law. The School’s new Social Justice Hub, overseen by Executive Director for Public Service and Pro Bono Initiatives Swati Parikh, offers specialized academic and career advising to students pursuing government and public interest careers.
