Dear NYLS Community,
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Catharine Du Bois as Director of New York Law School’s Legal Practice Program. Professor Du Bois is currently an Assistant Professor of Law with expertise and deep academic and practice experience in persuasive writing and advocacy. She will partner closely with Stephen J. Ellmann Dean of Clinical and Experiential Learning Kim Hawkins and Assistant Dean for Upper Level Writing Heidi Brown as they work with the entire LP team to continue to build on our 21st century approach to research and writing instruction.
Professor Du Bois began teaching legal writing after leaving practice to join the faculty at the University of Colorado Law School. She has taught both students and practicing lawyers ever since. In addition to the University of Colorado and NYLS, she has also taught at Brooklyn Law School and The Indiana University Maurer School of Law.
Previously, Professor Du Bois practiced in the litigation departments of Jenner & Block LLP, Chicago, and Jones Day, New York. She also clerked for the Honorable Steven D. Merryday of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Professor Du Bois has also been serving as a legal writing consultant for private law firms and for government entities including the DOL and the National Association of Attorneys General and is a Director for Persuasive Legal Writing at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), where she teaches seminars in persuasive writing. She holds a JD from Georgetown University Law Center, and a BA from Indiana University.
