Appointments, Awards, and Recognition
- John Marshall Harlan II Professor Penelope Andrews received the American Society of International Law’s 2026 Prominent Women in International Law Award and was also featured in the Institute for African Women in Law’s Women Who Inspire Magazine 2026. A two-day symposium held by the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria was devoted to her work.
- Dean and President Anthony W. Crowell was ranked #7 on The National Jurist’s “The 25 Most Influential People in Legal Education" list, and he was named a 2026 “Trailblazer in Law” and “Trailblazer in Higher Education” by City & State NY. He was also appointed to a Special Advisory Committee to review the ABA Council’s Standards for the Approval of Law Schools.
- Associate Professor Michael Goodyear was appointed a Fellow of the Information Society Law Center at the University of Milan for 2026–27. He was also awarded first place in the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP) Essay Competition for Young Researchers in Intellectual Property. In addition, he was invited to serve as a U.S. legal advisor for a U.S.-U.K. project, Federated Data Commons for Creative Communities, and he served as the inaugural Guest Editor of The Trademark Reporter, the law journal of the International Trademark Association.
- Dean for Technology Law Programs Michael Pastor was appointed to serve as Chair of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Special Committee on AI.
- Professor Emerita Mariana Hogan was awarded the Honorable Robert E. Keeton Award by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.

- Dean for Technology Law Programs Michael Pastor delivered the opening keynote for the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Corporate Counsel Conference, addressing the critical role lawyers play in AI development and deployment. He also presented a CLE webinar to the law team for New York City’s largest union, District Council 37 (DC 37), on cybersecurity for lawyers and another for the New York Department of Financial Services Regulations on cyber programs and safeguards.

- John Marshall Harlan II Professor Emerita Nadine Strossen made a keynote presentation at the Center for European Policies Studies (CEPS) Ideas Lab 2026 in Belgium. She was also a keynote speaker for the Spring Symposium of Boston College’s Clough Center for Constitutional Democracy.
- Distinguished Adjunct Professor Barry Appleton delivered a high-profile keynote to some of Canada’s most senior public policy makers at the Canadian School of Public Service in Ottawa, Canada, on the 2026 USMCA/CUSMA Review and Digital Sovereignty. He also delivered a keynote faculty development seminar on human rights in the age of technology at Vivekananda Global University (VGU) in India.

- Professor from Practice Ann Schofield Baker ’97 hosted a virtual CLE, entitled “The Fashion Law Forecast: What’s Trending in 2026,” for the National Association of Women Lawyers’ Fashion Law Affinity Group.
- Distinguished Chair in Immigration and Human Rights Law Lenni B. Benson spoke about immigration and invisible workers after a screening of a new film Invisible Borders at Village East by Angelika.
- Associate Dean for Upper Level Writing Heidi K. Brown gave a briefing at Practising Law Institute about lawyer crafting and upskilling in the AI era, a lecture on GenAI use and oversight by law firm teams at Cozen O'Connor, and a lecture titled "Authentic Writing in an AI Era" at the National Workshop for U.S. Magistrate Judges in San Antonio, Texas. In addition, she served on a panel entitled "Women in AI" at the LawDroid AI Conference 2026.
- Dean and President Anthony W. Crowell co-authored “The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ Will Shrink New York’s Legal Workforce and Damage the Economy — Albany Must Act Now” in amNew York. He also spoke on a panel entitled “Leadership Lessons From the Country’s Most Influential Individuals in Legal Education” at the National Conference for Law Review Editors and on a virtual panel about “Understanding the Effects of New Regulations Regarding Student Loans and Loan Forgiveness,” hosted by the ABA Council on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. - Associate Professor Michael Goodyear authored “Kodak to Deepfakes: Publicity Rights and Abuse of Our Likenesses” on Lawfare. He also co-authored “Human Problems: It’s Not Always the Technology’s Fault” on TechDirt. He was a panelist at the NYU Journal of Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law's annual symposium, “Influence.exe: Understanding How Virtual Creators Interact With and Will Shape Our Laws”; a panelist at the Texas A&M School of Law Center for Law and Intellectual Property’s “50th Anniversary of the 1976 Copyright Act” symposium; and a panelist discussing copyright and secondary liability at the 33rd Annual Fordham IP Conference.

- Joseph Solomon Distinguished Professor Rebecca Roiphe led a session on First Amendment rights of lawyers and other ethical issues facing defense attorneys at the annual National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys Conference in Colorado. She was also a panelist on a New York Council of Defense Lawyers CLE event and at Cardozo Law School’s symposium on “Executive Power and Overreach.” In addition, she guest lectured on accountability in the legal profession at University of California, Irvine.
- Ernst C. Stiefel Professor of Comparative Law Ruti G. Teitel co-authored “Transitional Justice in Post-Assad Syria: A Transformative Framework for Accountability and Reform” in Just Security. She also spoke at several events celebrating her new book, Presidential Visions of Transitional Justice: An American Legacy of Responsibility and Reconciliation, including one in Massachusetts in conversation with Harvard University’s Carl M. Loeb University Professor Annette Gordon-Reed and one in Paris hosted by the Sorbonne Research Institute in International and European Law (IREDIES) and NYU Arts and Science.
- Associate Professor Claire R. Thomas ’11 spoke on a panel concerning “Migrant Agency and Forms of Resistance in Contentious Times” at the IMISCOE (International Migration Research Network) Spring Conference at the Université de Liège in Belgium.
- Assistant Professor Amy Wallace traveled to Pakistan to work with Legal Aid Society Pakistan on training law faculty from five law schools on an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) certificate course she co-wrote. She also spoke on a panel entitled "Engaging Skills-Based and Pro Bono Volunteers: A Collaborative Approach" at the NYC Service Cross-Sector Summit, remotely taught a session on "Drafting Interview Questions and Practicing Reflective Writing" for law students at Villa College in the Maldives, and presented a workshop on Interactive Street Law Methodology at the Association of Legal Clinics of Ukraine's annual Street Law Festival.

- John Marshall Harlan II Professor Emerita Nadine Strossen was a panelist at a webinar on “Institutional Neutrality vs. Institutional Counterspeech,” hosted by the Heterodox Academy, participated in a symposium about “The Globalization of (Un-) Free Speech,” hosted by the Classical Liberal Institute at NYU School of Law and The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues at the University of San Diego, and spoke at several other events dedicated to current free speech topics across the country and internationally.
- Distinguished Adjunct Professor Barry Appleton authored "When Dispute Settlement Falters: Restoring Legal Certainty in USMCA," a chapter in the USMCA Forward 2026, the flagship report by The Brookings Institution. He also authored “Canada Faces the Most Serious Trade Threat in a Generation — and Carney's to Blame” in the National Post; “When Canada Negotiates With Donald Trump’s America, It’s Not Just Trade That’s at Stake. It’s Our Sovereignty” in the Toronto Star; and “The Arbitrator's Mandate Is Older Than AI” on TechCred. In addition, he testified in front of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative for a hearing regarding the operation of the Agreement between the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada (USMCA).
- Adjunct Professor Joanne Doroshow testified before the Maryland General Assembly House Judiciary Committee in support of legislation to repeal the state’s cap on non-economic damages.
- Distinguished Adjunct Professor Jeffrey M. Wice authored “New York’s Ongoing Redistricting Fight” in New York Daily News. He also addressed the Rochester NY Urban League, discussing the census, the potential loss of congressional districts, and the need for robust state and local census education and outreach programs. In addition, he participated in a New York Elections, Census, and Redistricting Institute CLE webinar on mid-decade redistricting and New York reforms.
- Distinguished Adjunct Professor Jeffrey M. Wice, Daniel Bonaventura ’26, and Esha Shah ’27 authored “The New York State Voting Rights Act – Preclearance Provisions” in the New York State Bar Association’s Municipal Lawyer.
