Today we recognize International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Anti-Semitism has been a scourge for many centuries, and the Holocaust and World War II was a singularly devastating event that nearly destroyed the Jewish people, and the entire world. Now is an especially crucial time to remember, as we continue to experience a sharp increase in anti-Semitic attacks and incidents in New York City, and all over the country and world. One of the most important ways to combat anti-Semitism is to continue to teach and pass down the lessons from the Holocaust, so that society will Always Remember this searing moment in our history. This is an even more urgent task as we have fewer Survivors to tell their stories, and keep the memories fresh in the minds of younger generations. Indeed, last fall, NYLS and its Jewish Law Students Association hosted a heavily attended and highly impactful forum in which we heard about the long journey of a Holocaust survivor as told through her daughter. We will host more important programming in the future.
Indeed, it is incumbent on all of us to do our part to ensure that we Never Forget, and ensure this type of atrocity never happens again.
