On May 20, New York City Mayoral candidates Shaun Donovan and Art Chang participated in a dialog with NYLS students and recent alumni. The event was the latest in the School’s Law and Leadership Mayoral series, which has featured public conversations with leading candidates.
Dean Anthony W. Crowell welcomed the group and moderated the conversation with Mr. Donovan. Questions from students and recent alumni addressed the lessons Mr. Donovan learned from leading the federal Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force and how he would recapture commercial tenants who vacated their spaces during the pandemic.
The second half of the event was a conversation with Art Chang that focused on technology and public policy and included additional guest speaker Michael Pastor, NYLS Senior Fellow and Adjunct Professor. Professor Pastor recently served as New York City’s Deputy Commissioner for Legal Affairs and Franchises & General Counsel for Citywide IT. Question topics for Mr. Chang included how he would ensure that New York City remains welcoming to tech entrepreneurs and how he would use technology to expand opportunities for the city’s millennial and Generation Z populations.
The event was presented by NYLS’s Law and Leadership Institute, Center for New York City Law, Center for Real Estate Studies, Impact Center for Public Interest Law, and Innovation Center for Law and Technology.
