NYLS’s Academic Programs and State-of-the-Art Facilities Recognized

preLaw magazine Top School for ADR, Top School for IP Law, and Best Law School Buildings.

NYLS has earned top grades in two fast-growing areas of law—plus special recognition for its vibrant downtown campus.

preLaw magazine awarded the School an A in alternative dispute resolution and an A in intellectual property law in its spring 2020 issue. The magazine also named NYLS to its list of “Best Law School Buildings.”

A Top School for Alternative Dispute Resolution

Through NYLS’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Skills Program, students take introductory courses in negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and ADR. They then further their study through doctrinal and clinical opportunities in deal negotiation, conflict negotiation, domestic and international mediation and arbitration, and area-specific dispute resolution regimes such as employment, securities, and family law dispute resolution.

The program also hosts trainings throughout the year, and prominent ADR organizations, including the American Arbitration Association, have held their events at NYLS.

The Dispute Resolution Team

The Dispute Resolution Team represents NYLS in competitions based on ADR methods and lawyering skills. In November 2019, the team placed first in the American Arbitration Association/New York State Bar Association Arbitration Competition and second in the American Bar Association’s Regional Arbitration Competition. The team also competes internationally.

A Top School for Intellectual Property Law

NYLS has a dynamic, highly-regarded intellectual property law discipline, taught by faculty who are sought-after experts in the field. NYLS’s IP courses and programs are housed within the School’s Innovation Center for Law and Technology.

In addition to coursework, the Innovation Center offers unparalleled experiential opportunities that give students a competitive advantage in the job market. The Center also hosts major conferences.
