New York, NY (February 3, 2020) – Plachikkat V. (PV) Anantharam has been appointed Senior Vice President and CFO of New York Law School (NYLS). In the role, Anantharam will oversee NYLS’s budget, finance, business operations, and human resources functions. He joined the School on February 3, 2020.

Anantharam has more than 30 years of fiscal management experience in city government, including 16 years (from 1998 to 2014) as Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget, where he oversaw a $25-billion operating budget and provided fiscal and management oversight for agencies tasked with health and social services. Most recently, he held two reform-focused executive roles in New York City government: CFO of New York City Health + Hospitals (overseeing an $8-billion budget) from 2015 to 2018, and most recently, Executive Vice President and CFO of the New York City Housing Authority (overseeing a $3.5-billion budget).

“As New York Law School implements its 2020 Strategic Plan, PV Anantharam will play a central role in continuing NYLS’s sound management practices while building new partnerships and programs to benefit our students,” said Anthony W. Crowell, Dean and President of NYLS.

“I am very excited to join New York Law School’s amazing and dedicated team of professionals to ensure a bright future for NYLS students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the many individuals and organizations NYLS graduates will serve during their legal careers,” said PV Anantharam. “I look forward to working with Dean Crowell and senior leadership to deliver the objectives charted in the 2020 Strategic Plan.”

“This is a coup for NYLS! PV is the cream of the crop when it comes to CFOs and public managers,” said Stanley Brezenoff, a 40-year veteran of New York City government whose roles have included First Deputy Mayor of New York City, President of NYC Health + Hospitals, Executive Director of the Port Authority, and President and CEO of Maimonides Medical Center. “He is a brilliant and accomplished financial steward and the ideal partner for executive leadership of large organizations.”

“PV has given the residents of New York City many exceptional years of public service,” said Dean Fuleihan, First Deputy Mayor of New York City. “He was one my principal deputies at the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget, and I saw first-hand his devotion to ensuring vital services are delivered to New Yorkers. More recently, PV was instrumental in bringing financial stability to NYC Health + Hospitals and the New York City Housing Authority. His experience will bring both financial management and programmatic skills to the position of Senior VP and CFO. He will be an outstanding addition to NYLS.”

“PV Anantharam has the fiscal and operational skills, keen judgment, and extensive experience to expertly guide the next phase of New York Law School’s development and growth,” said Arthur N. Abbey ’59, Chair of NYLS’s Board of Trustees. “He will be a valuable member of the School’s senior team.”

Anantharam holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance from Rutgers University and a degree in Production Engineering from Agnel Technical College in Mumbai, India.

Dean Crowell also expressed gratitude to outgoing Executive Vice President and CFO Stuart Klein for his “exemplary service during the last seven years.” Though Klein is retiring, he will continue to serve NYLS in an advisory role and will help ensure that Anantharam’s transition is seamless. Before joining NYLS in 2013, Klein spent more than 35 years as a senior executive in New York City government, including as First Deputy Budget Director for New York City’s Office of Management and Budget.

“I couldn’t be happier than to have someone with PV’s exemplary background and skills chart a course that continues our path of stability, sustainability, and success,” Klein said.
